EQUINE SHOWS & EVENTS: THE 'CONTINENTAL' AT SPRUCE MEADOWS

Steven Quon June 18, 2018

By a special request I made my way back to Spruce Meadows for a couple hours this past Saturday to shoot a handful of specific riders.

I was also VERY HAPPY to see that the jump with water was back and this time it was accessible. I really wanted to capture this jump at the 'National' but it was inaccessible.

One thing that I was unable to capture at the 'National' the week prior was the presentations as I was caught up on the opposite end of the ring, so I wanted to make up for it at the 'Continental'.

EQUINE SHOWS & EVENTS: AURORA ARABIAN HORSE SHOW

Steven Quon June 16, 2018

I had my first experience at an Arabian Horse Show last weekend out at the Aurora Arabian Horse Show in Ponoka AB and it was fantastic. Thank you Kerri Buksa for choosing me as the official show photographer for the 2019 Spring Fling Horse Show next April. I have big plans in store for that show.

Photographing a show like this is obviously very different from the fast action that I am accustomed to but it did not take me very long to find my rhythm.

CANCELLED TIFFANY FOSTER PHOTOSHOOT

Steven Quon June 15, 2018

A couple nights ago I had an equestrian magazine publication from Spain get in touch with me asking if I would be available this upcoming Tuesday to do a lifestyle portraiture photoshoot at Spruce Meadows with two time Canadian Olympian and veteran of the Canadian Show Jumping Team, Tiffany Foster.

They had a tight deadline and very specific requirements that they need met and that they needed to count on me to get it done. I reassured them that not only have they contacted the right person to get the job done but that I would go above and beyond their expectations. So I said, "absolutely!", I do not let opportunities like this pass and I am incredibly honoured to have been chosen to do a photo shoot with such a highly regarded name in the world of showjumping.

Unfortunately, Tiffany will be heading back home next week and will not be at Spruce Meadows so we could not make our schedules work. However it's a small world out there and I am sure we will one day cross paths for other exciting opportunities.

Here are the photos that I got of Tiffany Foster at last weekends 'National'.

The 'National' (2018) at Spruce Meadows

Steven Quon June 12, 2018

What an experience it was at my first outdoor jumping event this past weekend at Spruce Meadows the ‘National’. I came off a full three month break from photographing any kind of jumping (my last event was the “Spring Welcome” in March), and it felt like I never missed a beat. It was cold and raining for most of Sunday but I toughed it out because I knew I couldn’t let this opportunity slip by. I shot all the jumps in single shot, meaning I take ONE shot per jump.

With that being said, there often comes bad news with good news, let’s first start with the bad news. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to make my way down to any of the warm up rings for pictures, let alone shoot at the All Canada Ring. I would have to spend another day there and just spend a few hours at the warm ring ups. As much as I would love to be at two or three places at one time, it’s just not possible. This barrier will be addressed for the 'Masters'.

I will be needing an assistant come time for the ‘Masters’ in September. It’s still three months away so that gives me time to find one, but this is an absolute must because I am far less limited when I have one with me.

My photos are strictly for my portfolio use and the licensing rights are not for sale. Spruce has their own photographers and they were on-site taking photos throughout the event so that is who you would have to go through for photos. The same will apply for my visit back there in September at the ‘Masters’ tournament.

Now onto the good news! For my very first outdoor big stage jumping event (though I was not in the ring with full privileges) I learned a ton. Expect to see me make some significant adjustments and really step it up for the “Masters” in September.

Enjoy the pictures! I will be tagging people in the photos in the next day, feel free to tag anyone you may know in any of the photos. Thanks for viewing them.

EQUINE VIDEOGRAPHY: YOU CAN DO IT!

Steven Quon June 6, 2018

Here is the second piece to my video marketing, covering my Equine Videography service - in this case, documentary. Again make sure your volume is up! :)

It is called "You Can Do It!".

Thank you to Taylor Bland and her superstar mare Winnie for really nailing it on camera. They were spectacular and I couldn't have asked for a better pair to work with me on camera.

The mosquitoes out in the field were extremely bad, twelve bites in the hour that we were out there so it made filming that much more difficult but I was willing to pay the price to get the job done.

EQUINE VIDEOGRAPHY: THE STORY OF KIM AND SKYLAR

Steven Quon May 30, 2018

Here is my first video marketing piece for my Equine Portraiture - the story of Kim and Skylar.

Make sure your volume is up. :)

Kim Vos and Skylar did such spectacular jobs on camera. :) Thank you Kim for putting up with me because I went in knowing exactly how this video was going to look from start to finish. Both Kim and Skylar were such great sports, they were very patient with me as I went about composing each shot.

EQUINE PORTRAITURE SNAP & GO PHOTO SHOOT: KIM VOS

Steven Quon May 28, 2018

Here are the handful of photos from today. This was not a full photo shoot but instead a mini-session as I needed just 3 photos to incorporate into my first video marketing piece with Kim Vos and her mare Skylar, whom both did a fantastic job on camera today! :)

We shot this in the outdoor arena.

Just a reminder that my mini portraiture sessions, also known as "Snap & Go" mini portraiture sessions are bookable at any Equine Shows & Events that I am working at.
