#3 OF MY TOP 10 FAVORITE IMAGES SO FAR IN 2019

Steven Quon June 10, 2019

Here is #3 of my Top 10 favorite images so far in 2019.

Very similar to my #4 picture, I knew my time at the Dubai World Cup was going to give me these emotional but monumental moments to document, simply because of the magnitude of the event and how this event is photographed year in and year out by the media from all around the world.

One thing that I do very often at shows is that I work from locations that nobody else shoots from, this allows me to snap moments that very few others (if any) get and if it is a moment that others do get, I capture that moment in a much different style.

#4 OF MY TOP 10 FAVORITE IMAGES SO FAR IN 2019

Steven Quon June 9, 2019

Here is #4 of my Top 10 favorite images so far in 2019.

I've been itching to capture a moment like this for awhile now, I just had to be in the right situation that would give me this opportunity. Going into the Dubai World Cup, I had no doubt that I would finally be getting it.

My position on the track rail was quite far from the finish line, so I wasn't able to get more of these celebrations because my angle from the finish line was not ideal or up to my expectations but at least this one is a start. Thankfully, the one jockey that I was able to capture in this specific type of celebration was the winner of the event, Thunder Snow.

UPCOMING PLANS AT THIS BARN

Steven Quon June 7, 2019

Just wait until you see what I have planned at this barn coming up very soon. This includes showing a side of my brand that nobody has seen before and something that I've been wanting to do for quite some time, so I am very excited!

Here's just a quick pic taken with my phone.

#5 OF MY TOP 10 FAVORITE IMAGES SO FAR IN 2019

Steven Quon June 6, 2019

Here is #5 of my Top 10 favorite images so far in 2019.

It was quite the experience heading out to the desert in Dubai for this picture. Even though looking back now, I probably shouldn't have done it since the air was so bad and I do believe that this day was a big contributor in the severity of my illness. Once we got to the open it got extremely windy, so that sand was kicking up right in your face and I'm sure (even though I tried my best to avoid it) that I inhaled some of it.

This was by far the most difficult environment that I've worked in, mainly because I was not well, the thick polluted air and the jets and planes going by what seemed to be every 30 seconds, which created for lots of noise and activity in the air. And when you are out in this kind of setting with a pack of four other Arabian horses, you have to factor in their patience and ability to withstand this kind of wind, noise and activity in the air.

Each time I see this picture, the first thing I see is the gentle touch of this woman but I also see the happiness that this horse gives her when they are together. And that is what makes Equine Portraiture so magical, being able to see the connection and expressions between horse and human is a sight to see and being counted on to capture those absolute best moments in it's most organic form is the best feeling in the world.

#6 OF MY TOP 10 FAVORITE IMAGES SO FAR IN 2019

Steven Quon June 5, 2019

Here is #6 of my Top 10 favorite images so far in 2019.

This is one of my happiest images to date and last week I mentioned how the subject's (person's) mood will show through your pictures. This jockey (XY Jet) is beyond happy after winning his race and his body language says it all.

But what makes this picture extra special is the fact that it was taken as the sun was just about down, so the contrast between the dark sky and the track lights make the image more dramatic. Intimate celebrations like this one is what we all cherish in the show world, especially for those who are really into horse racing.

Boy does that front line on the track ever get crammed when you are out there with over 200 other photographers fighting for every inch of space, in an attempt to get the best shot you can of the winner from that race.

I actually took this while standing on my tippy toes from the very back of the pack because my position along the track rail was quite far and photographer's who have spots closest to the front line on the track, have a huge advantage in being able to make it to this location after each race quicker, therefore giving them the best prime spots for their pictures.

#7 OF MY TOP 10 FAVORITE IMAGES SO FAR IN 2019

Steven Quon June 4, 2019

Here is #7 of my Top 10 favorite images so far in 2019.

Getting to be around these Arabian beauties for the majority of my time in Dubai, one of the priorities on my list to capture was of a foal just being him/herself and having fun. Not only that but I wanted just the foal and nothing else in the photo, and to achieve that at a show can be a little tricky with so many other subjects and distractions in your environment and with the foals sticking so close to their mothers.

Photographing foals are undoubtedly more difficult to photograph than adult horses and it's not just because they're obviously a lot smaller of a subject but also they move and shift around so quickly, that images are 100% determined by one's skill level in tracking moving subjects and in this case, a very fast moving subject.
