THIS YEARS CALGARY STAMPEDE

Steven Quon July 12, 2019

With only a couple days left of this years Calgary Stampede, I've been asked by several people if I have any regrets on not being there this year as an exhibitor, despite having been accepted. I have no regrets as I am fully confident that I made the best decision at the time, focusing on what got me here today and preparing myself in other ways.

An excellent quote that I read last year, "Don't rush the process, good things take time." It couldn't be anymore true in my shoes.

I'm just taking it all in, I'm incredibly grateful for knowing all the wonderful people that I've worked with (including those outside of North America) and thrilling opportunities that have come my way thus far.

DO YOUR HORSES GET YEARLY CHECKUPS?

Steven Quon June 27, 2019

Everyone is different - some do checkups once or twice a year, others don't do them at all, and other's may do it every Spring with shots.

What about you?

5' X 10' BANNER READY FOR THE RACE TRACK

Steven Quon June 24, 2019

Here is my 5' x 10' banner that you can expect to see up at the Millarville Racetrack on July 1st for their 114th Annual races.

I was originally going to have one of my current images plastered on this from edge to edge with my logo in one of the corners, but since this will be placed on the inside rail of the track and with spectators about 200 feet back, the text just wouldn't be visible so I had to go with logo only.

UPCOMING PLANS AT THIS BARN

Steven Quon June 7, 2019

Just wait until you see what I have planned at this barn coming up very soon. This includes showing a side of my brand that nobody has seen before and something that I've been wanting to do for quite some time, so I am very excited!

Here's just a quick pic taken with my phone.

"PHOTOGRAPHER'S ASSISTANT" POSITIONS AVAILABLE

Steven Quon May 29, 2019

I posted this last summer with it netting great interest but people's availability can change at any give time, so I am in need to find two more people to be my "Photographer's Assistant" - my goal now is to have one main and two backups as travel distances can be an issue. I need my MAIN assistant to be located either in Calgary or not too far outside of the city.

My assistant will come along with me just about everywhere. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴:

1) Horses
2) Photography or videography (or even better both!)

The number one question that I received when I posted this ad the first time was "I am a beginner and don't know much about photography, can I still apply?" The answer is yes you absolutely can. For me, attitude is everything, skills (for the most part) can be taught but it all comes down to the individual as a person, fit and the level of determination that they have to achieving their goals.

Experience handling and working with horses is a must, experience with studs is an asset. This is the ONLY reason why I haven't put anymore time and effort into finding individuals right from colleges. I've met some stellar individuals right from college who would make great assistants but I need that experience with horses.

IMPORTANT: Every image that sits in my portfolio will ALWAYS come from my cameras and captured with my vision, so my assistants will not be working as a second shooter.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿?

I look for someone who is in this for the RIGHT reasons. If you have a passion for the two reasons as I indicated above, the big question to ask yourself would be, do you see this as mentor ship opportunity and not just a pay cheque?

Communication is a two way street and I am a believer that it's everything. I look for someone who has a strong work-ethic and sees this as an on-going journey, full of thrilling and valuable learning experiences. Working for me will not only be super exciting but very rewarding because I only want individuals who enjoy the experience that I provide.

If interested, or for any questions that you may have, shoot me an email at 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼@𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗾𝘂𝗼𝗻.𝗰𝗼𝗺

NEW SERVICE COMING IN 2020!

Steven Quon May 24, 2019

You may recall earlier this year, how I briefly mentioned that I have a plan to incorporate the educational component into my brand. This is the next big thing that I will soon be working on. I just found myself a couple fantastic and very enthusiastic filmmakers earlier this week so that's a start.

So is it running workshops? In a way yes but not directly. Workshops are still on my list and even though I have yet to host one (I just about had my first one last year out in British Columbia), right now I am focusing on providing a service on a much larger scale, with workshops being just one small part of this service.

My initial goal still remains the same, and that is to be able to teach ANY individual or group from ANYWHERE around the world. Connect this service with my future travel's and it makes my adventure's that much more thrilling.

This is a platform service that I have had success building from the ground up for two different companies in the last five years. Well I'm about to do it again for the third time, except there is one key difference this time around, I will be the one making all the decisions on how it's structured. By adding this service, it will not only elevate my brand image, it will also add a fresh and an entirely new element that currently does not exist.

I will be starting on the big plan soon and it will take many many months and a lot of hours invested to build my platform and prepare my service. This service will launch in the first half of 2020. I'm excited!

JOURS DE CHEVAL - SPRING 2019 EDITION

Steven Quon May 13, 2019

Thank you to 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹 for reaching out to me this past winter wanting to put me in the Spring 2019 edition of their publication. Anne Deram it's been my pleasure working with you over the months getting this publication prepped and all finalized. Thank you for all you have done to get it all completed.

The magazine looks superb! As a photographer one has to be very analytical on how their work looks in physical media. It's no different if it's my Equine Wall Art or a 2x3" in a magazine article, it's all full representation of your work. Everyone has their own print supplier which can obviously vary in quality and this one turned out perfect - exact replica's of my original images, right down to the contrast, shadows, colors and saturation.:)

His friends define him, above all, as sincere. This is probably the reason why Steven Quon's equestrian photos radiate freshness and spontaneity. Self-taught, he is very passionate about technology and, more specifically, about video. The photograph crosses his path when he is only 20 years old, but the absence of sufficiently captivating subjects in his eyes pushes him to give up. At the chance of a meeting, in 2013, he discovered a real fascination for horses. He then finds a taste for photography and enjoys, therefore, to cross disciplines and equestrian events around the world to satisfy his new passion. Owner of a Paint Horse in Calgary (Canada), Steven explores the equine universe in all its diversity and immortalizes it in pastel colors, thanks to his Nikon D500's and D750, through deeply harmonious shots.

"In the manner of making a film, the preparations are essential. I calmly observe a scene to immerse myself in it and I anticipate the photographic result. Very often, improvisation takes over and I adjust what I had planned. It is, in fact, what makes all the charm of equine photography."

"Through my photos, I want to transcribe with authenticity the natural beauty of these unusual animals. Their way of moving, of communicating with each other and with human beings fascinates me. The horse is an extraordinary creature to photograph that I'll never get tired of."
