Many of you wanted to see inside the barns in Dubai, well here you go. There was something truly special about being inside this barn, maybe it was the dry heat out in the desert, or maybe it was because it had a very distinct feel to it. I will just let you take in all the sights and sounds but it's an experience that I will never forget.
UPDATE: There are 3 of these barns, exact replicas next to each other.
Remember this boy from last May?! His name is Blitz and he was just a day old in these two pictures that I took of him last May. Well look and him now! They sure grow up quick. Thank you Lisa Janssen for the update on him and his mama. I always love hearing updates.
Let's talk about the Sable Island Wild Horses. One of the goals on my list is to make it out to the East Coast Nova Scotia, to find and take pictures of the these guys. What are your thoughts on the Sable Island Wild Horses? Who has had the pleasure of seeing them in person?
The Salt Lake Wild Horses in Arizona is also on my bucket list.
I am pleased to announce that Fleetwood Farms Quarter Horses and I have joined forces, as I am now their official photographer for the Fleetwood operation.
Many of you enjoyed my images from my visit there last July, that I knew a return trip back to the farms was inevitable. For those who have not seen my images from last July, click HERE to view all the images.
So what can you expect from us this year? Well I am going to cover the visual advertising for Fleetwood in showing their 2019 foals the best I can. This will give me great opportunities to finally get some high spirited images of horses playing, as well as the stallions, we can't forget about them.
So look forward to another very busy upcoming season at Fleetwood and all the stunning new creatures that they are about to bring into this world.
Which print to bring to Dubai? So when I head to Dubai in less than 5 weeks from now, I have made the decision to bring ONE piece of Equine Wall Art with me, in 12x18" canvas framed, to showcase to their people. I would love to show United Arab's the diverse horse culture that is here in Alberta, here in Canada but that's going to be difficult to do with just one piece, so instead I would like to perhaps introduce something new and fresh to them - something they don't necessarily see all the time over there.
Ideally, I would love to bring three pieces of Equine wall art with me but there is only so much space in my check-in luggage. Just one of the small sacrifices when travelling, otherwise I would bring my 40x60" and 20x40" prints with me. I prefer to travel light and I am not wanting to bring a second check-in luggage, since I will already be having my camera bag and my backpack with my laptops with me.
It was difficult to choose but after many discussions with others over the past few weeks, I have concluded that the image that I bring over to showcase will be one of the following:
1) Alberta Wild Horses
2) Foals
3) Candid's of the groom at the Breeders' Cup.
So here is a shortlist of my images that I am considering. Which of these three subjects do you feel would be the most beneficial for me, as an Albertan, to introduce to their culture? And ultimately which of these 7 images you would choose?
I love them all but that groom photo would be money.
There will be a lot of curiosity and I am confident that any of these 3 subjects will nail it, but which one would do it the best?
My agenda in Dubai is now filling up very quickly. Aside from attending the Dubai International Horse Fair, March 24th is perhaps THE ticket that I have to make those connections. My foot is already in the door, I just now need to pursue it and run with the opportunity.
What do I have planned for that day? Well I am not going to spill all the beans just yet, but this is perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity, or how I like to spin it, the beginning of a potential new client base - to meet and be around this many Arabian breeders from all parts of the world, the media involved in the Arabian community, photographers and videographers from all parts of the middle east and around the globe in a more isolated, social, outdoor event.
Finally a good portrait of my mare.
The one thing that I lack is a good portrait of my mare and fortunately I was able to get one this past week. It wasn't a great day for pictures mainly because it was very cold out and the herd were distracted by outside happenings, so it was a challenge getting her in the exact spot that I wanted her in, but just as I was about to head back, I managed to catch this moment just in the nick of time. Gotta love the light that these blistering cold winter days can provide you. This one will be added to my list of getting framed.
